After two and a half years of determined fundraising efforts and community collaboration, Rosetown, Saskatchewan, has achieved a milestone: the installation of the first all-inclusive playground in the West Central Saskatchewan region. Led by PlayQuest and supported by local volunteers, the new playground represents the community’s shared vision of a space where children of all abilities can enjoy the joy of outdoor play together.
A Playground for Everyone
Playgrounds are more than just spaces for fun; they’re places where friendships form, physical challenges are met, and imagination takes flight. Yet, many playgrounds lack the features necessary to include all children. Recognizing this gap, Rosetown set out to build an all-inclusive playground—a space designed to be accessible for every child, regardless of ability.
Phase one of the playground, which was completed over the weekend of September 27-29, brings this vision to life. PlayQuest led the installation of the main play structure with the support of an enthusiastic volunteer team from the Rosetown community. This effort marks a significant step towards inclusivity, setting a new standard for play spaces in the region.
A Community-Driven Effort
The journey to build this playground began over two years ago, driven by passionate community members and fundraising events. Their dedication was fueled by the belief that all children deserve equal opportunities to play and engage in their community. The Rosetown Ladies Night Out in 2024, hosted by the Kinsmen Club of Rosetown, has even pledged funds towards the playground’s further development. Such initiatives showcase the remarkable community spirit that Rosetown is known for.
“There’s nothing quite like the support found in small rural communities,” shared a local organizer in an article by Jenny Hagan for West Central Online. “This project brings everyone together to focus on a common goal, and it’s heartwarming to see the community rally behind it”
What’s Next: Phase Two
Phase one, with its new play structure, is only the beginning. Phase two will introduce several additional features that will expand accessibility and usability even further. Plans include:
- Freestanding Accessible Merry-Go-Round: A classic playground favorite, adapted to be accessible for children of all abilities.
- Shade Structure and Picnic Tables: Adding comfort for families to gather, rest, and enjoy the playground together.
- Bench Seating: Seating options placed throughout the playground for ease of supervision and relaxation.
- Accessible Pathways: Paths that connect different play areas, ensuring all children can navigate the space independently.
These elements will add to the existing play structure, offering children even more ways to engage, socialize, and play together.
A Lasting Legacy of Inclusivity
Rosetown’s new all-inclusive playground is more than a play space; it’s a symbol of unity and progress. With the community’s continued support, this playground is poised to become a centerpiece where every child can find belonging, acceptance, and joy. It’s an inspiring example of how communities, when they work together, can create meaningful, lasting change.
PlayQuest is proud to be part of this journey, partnering with Rosetown to build a playground that reflects the values of inclusivity and community spirit. Here’s to more moments of joy, laughter, and connection for the children and families of Rosetown!
This playground project, built through the power of community, is a testament to what’s possible when people rally behind a shared goal. PlayQuest looks forward to seeing Rosetown’s all-inclusive playground continue to grow and inspire others.
