When working to design a playground, some of the first concerns that come to mind are accessibility\u00a0and inclusivity. These terms are easily confused, however there are important nuances to consider\u00a0and an accessible playground is not necessarily inclusive. Accessible design emphasizes the physical use of a design and ensures that a playground is free of\u00a0barriers that would exclude anyone with a recognizable physical or cognitive disability. Designs must\u00a0be CDA compliant and offer play elements that can be enjoyed by children of all abilities.\u00a0<\/p>

Consideration should be given to caregivers who may be differently abled as well. Beyond making a playground accessible for those with physical disabilities, including events that can be enjoyed by individuals with sight or hearing loss (such as play panels featuring braille or sign language) is key.\u00a0The play panels create a link between children of any ability and offer an added educational benefit.<\/p>
